Plea against Jayalalithaa
NEW DELHI, AUG. 3. Immediately after a Supreme Court ruling that
convicted public servants should not hold office till their names
were cleared, a petition was filed today seeking an order from
the court to restrain Ms. Jayalalithaa from functioning as the
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The petition filed by Mr. B.R. Kapur, who has also challenged the
legality of Ms. Jayalalithaa's appointment as the Chief Minister,
said that yesterday's judgment fully applied to her, who has been
already convicted in two cases of corruption.
