Customs men fire in self defence
SILIGURI, AUG. 4. Customs officials fired 41 rounds in the air in
self defence after a mob attacked them at Bagdogra railway
station where they had gone to raid a train for smuggled goods,
the Director of Revenue Intelligence, Mr. V. Pradhan, said here
today.
After receiving specific information that a huge quantity of
smuggled goods was being carried in the U.P. Inter- City Express,
a team of 33 customs officials and constables raided the train
when a mob attacked them in support of the smugglers on Friday,
Mr. Pradhan said.
