Rock(y) solid

AS HE takes a deep drag on his king-sized cigarette, Chandrachur comes out as a person who's in total command yet looks utterly calm and composed. Looking upwards towards an overcast sky and with a frown on his face, the droopy actor wonders: "Do you think it is going to rain in the evening"?

The reason? He doesn't want to miss the shooting even as ace director Raghavendra Rao was filming a song sequence at the Padmalaya Studios of the Hindi version of `Kshemanga Velli Labhanga Randi'.

While his first release `Maachis' was a box-office hit, the others didn't do that well. But Rocky is unwilling to accept his career graph has been on the decline. "Five of my nine films have been silver jubilees and I have four more films under production which appear to be promising". The five that he considers as hits, apart from `Maachis', are `Tere Mere Sapne', `Daag-The Fire', `Kya Kehna' and `Josh'.

"Actually I feel I was overexposed. It's all media hype. Yeah...ups and downs are a part of everyone's life and I have learnt to take it with a pinch of salt. It happens yaar", he drools. Does that mean he blames the media for the publicity given to him? "No, no...no. It's not like that", he shrugs off, typical of him, and continuing to enjoy his fag.

"Acting is a passion for me and I want to continue doing that as long as I can", he drawls. Unlike other phillum heroes, Chandrachur is a home bird, in every sense. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, who call him Rocky from his school days. Avantika, whom he married to two-and-a-half years ago, chips in: "Home food apart, Chandrachur loves eating hot and spicy Italian fare."

A lover of ole' Hindi music, Rocky feasts on numbers of R.D. Burman. He likes Hindustani classical music, Bade Ghulam Ali being his favourite, and sarod too. And he's passionate like any other Indian on the 11-men game. In fact, he captained his school and college teams and used to play for MCC Club, Mumbai. And you bet it. He never misses watching One-Day internationals of Indian team.
