The week ahead
THE historic opposition of Saturn and Pluto occurs today, August
5, at 17:04 GMT. Then, the Moon squares Pluto on Tuesday, August
7, at 07:39 GMT. Both celestial line-ups will raise your
awareness of intractable situations in profound need of change.
Honesty is the best route to success. Assess any predicament that
is out of alignment and try to recreate a new, workable order.
Tensions run high during Saturn-Pluto oppositions. Saturn-Pluto
oppositions occur in groups of three, two to three times every
Century. Today's alignment is the first in the group of three.
The second Saturn-Pluto opposition occurs on November 2, 2001,
and the third happens on May 26, 2002, when all unresolved issues
will come to final resolution.

Queries Answered
What criteria must be applied in selecting gem-stones to act
against the effects of weak planets, and to fortify the benefits
of strong ones? Are Maha Dasa and Bhukthi relevant?
P. V. K. Sarma, Chennai-82.
SOME wear gems according to their date of birth as per the
Gregorian calendar with Sun Signs determining the choice. Experts
believe that weak planets in one's horoscope can be compensated
for by wearing gems considered propitious to them.
Planets with short Maha Dasa durations will have frequent Bhukthi
changes, and one cannot be making rapid alterations on their
account.
Carrying a gem in one's purse for some time to make sure it is
suitable is good, before wearing it set in a ring. Open setting
is good for all gems, except diamonds. Gold rings are more
effective than silver.
