Normality restored in Asind, claims Cong. leader
By Our Special Correspondent
JAIPUR, AUG. 5. The president of the Rajasthan unit of the
Congress, Dr. Girija Vyas, today said the Asind mosque issue
would be settled through mutual dialogue between the two groups
involved. ``The dialogue is on. Both the groups are willing for a
negotiated, peaceful settlement,'' she said.
``The Congress wants permanent peace in the area. We are working
for it. Normality has been restored,'' she said.
Talking to newspersons at the party headquarters here, Dr. Vyas
said that people of Asind want to live in peace and harmony.
``Steps have been taken to restore normality. The response has
been very positive. Mewar has a history of the Hindus and Muslims
fighting together and not against each other.''
She refused to comment on the role of Rajesh Pilot Brigade in the
demolition of a wall of the mosque. ``I came to know about the
existence of such a body only during the current developments in
Asind,'' she said, adding that she had informed Parliament last
week that status quo had been restored in the case of the mosque.
``What I said was that the dialogue was on. The newly installed
idol of Lord Hanuman had been removed from the site and there was
a settlement on the use of the road leading to the dargah. As for
rebuilding of the wall, the issue has been left to the Waqf
Board.''
