Pick up in sales of Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto
NEW DELHI, AUG. 5. Two-wheeler producers Hero Honda and Bajaj
Auto have reported a rise in their sales in July while LML's
domestic sales remained flat in April-June.
Hero Honda Motors has reported a 39.8 per cent rise in sales at
1.03 lakh units in July against 73,806 units sold in the same
month last year. The July sales were, however, down by 1.8 per
cent as compared to 1.05 lakh motorcycles sold in June this year,
according to a company statement.
Cumulative sales (April-July 2001-02) stood at 4.10 lakh units,
up 30.9 per cent against 3.13 lakh units sold in the year-ago
period.
Hero Honda's largest selling motorcycle, the 100cc Splendor
comprises about 50-60 per cent of its total sales. The company
sells about 30,000 and 10,000 units a month of the recently
launched Passion and Joy models respectively. It also
manufactures the CD100, CD100ss, Street Smart and CBZ
motorcycles.
Hero Honda is a 26:26 joint venture between the Hero group and
Honda Motor Company of Japan. The rest of the equity is held by
financial institutions and the public.
Bajaj Auto
Bajaj Auto's motorcycle sales recorded a 56 per cent growth in
July 2001 by selling 51,145 units in the review month against
32,696 units sold in the corresponding period last year.
Overall sales of two and three-wheelers registered a growth of 9
per cent with a sales of 1.08 lakh units in July this year
against 99,279 units sold in the corresponding period last year.
The new Bajaj Boxer CT, launched in June has emerged as a true
winner in motorcycle sales in July, while in the executive bike
segment, Aspire and Caliber Croma have the potential to
contribute for further growth in volumes, Mr. R. L. Ravichandran,
vice-president, business development and marketing, said in a
release.The month of July saw the company launching three new
motorcycle models including the premium category cruiser bike
Eliminator, it added.
LML
LML's total domestic sales remained flat at 49,248 units in
April-June 2001-02 against 49,138 units sold during the same
period in 2000-01 due to a 22.6 per cent drop in scooter sales at
37,990 units. Motorcycles sales stood at 11,258 units during the
quarter under review.Exports increased by 19.3 per cent at 2,363
units against 1,987 units in the year-on-year quarter.
During May-July 2001-02, the company completed substantial work
and integration of its production facility for the new four-
stroke 110 cc motorcycle series, which it plans to launch
starting this month.
