Fit institution certificate must for NGOs running homes for destitutes
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 6. All the NGOs running shelters for the orphaned
and destitute children must possess a `Fit Institution
Certificate' issued by the Commissioner, Juvenile Welfare,
otherwise, they are liable for prosecution.
Dr. G.F. Prabhakar, incharge chairperson of Juvenile Welfare
Board, in a statement here on Monday said that it was mandatory
for the NGOs' running shelters for the juveniles and other
children to possess the certificate.
It is also mandatory that every NGO produced the juvenile or
orphaned children within 24 hours before the Juvenile Welfare
Board giving details in prescribed proforma and take permission
to have interim custody of the juvenile for 90 days.
If the parents were not found they could continue keeping the
children in the shelters, he said. If the rule was flouted then
such NGOs' would be prosecuted under JJ Act 1986 and JJ Act for
Child Protection and Care of 2000, he added.
Dr. Prabhakar said that there were a number of NGOs' running the
shelters in the State without permission and asked them to update
their positions. He would be inspecting the shelters soon with
the officials of departments concerned, he warned.
