Anti-depressant drug from Wockhardt

MUMBAI, AUG. 6. Wockhardt Ltd. has launched Venlafaxine Capsules,
an anti-depressant drug, under the brand name of Flavix-XR.
Flavix-XR is a Novel Drug Delivery System (NDDS) product with a
once-a-day dose for a 24-hour action.
Mr. Habil F Khorakiwala, chairman, Wockhardt Ltd. said, ``We are
focussing on some of the lifestyle segments such as depression,
diabetes, heart diseases and psychological illnesses.''
Venlafaxine is a well-accepted product globally with sales of
over $1 billion.
Wockhardt now ranks second to Sun Pharmaceuticals in the domestic
anti-depressant market which is pegged at Rs. 136 crores. The
company is currently manufacturing Flavix-XR at its Gujarat
facility.
Wockhardt has three products apart from Flavix-XR in the anti-
depressant market, namely, Tryptomar-XR, Libotrip and Platin.
