Jayalalithaa cancels trip

CHENNAI, AUG. 7. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa, today cancelled her Delhi trip citing health reasons. Ms. Jayalalithaa, who was scheduled to meet the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr. K.C. Pant, to finalise the annual plan outlay for 2001-2002, called off the visit on doctor's advice.

Ms. Jayalalithaa was ``indisposed due to a long- standing spinal problem.'' As the problem got aggravated due to excessive strain in the past few days, thereby causing severe low back pain, according to an official press release.

But the Chief Minister deputed the Finance Minister, Mr. C. Ponnaiyan, along with a team of senior officials, to take part in the meeting with Mr. Pant.
