Zaheer declared fit

CHENNAI, AUG. 7. The Indian medium-pace bowler Zaheer Khan, who had come to Chennai for a medical scanning to clear his `stress fracture,' has been declared fit. Zaheer is to take a week's rest and will be fit for the Test series against Sri Lanka which commences on August 14.

Zaheer had earlier complained of pain on his right shin during the Coca-Cola Cup One-day triangular series in Colombo and was supposed to come to the city midway but on the team management's request, he had to stay put in Colombo till the conclusion of the triangular series which India lost to Sri Lanka in the final.

UNI reports from Hyderabad:

India's dashing number three batsman V.V.S. Laxman today underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test at the Nizam Institute of Medical Science here. Laxman had a swelling and pain in his right knee during the third One-day international match against New Zealand in the just-concluded tri-nation series.

He was referred to a Sri Lanka-based Australian doctor David Yong, who after initial tests stated that it would take three week's time to heal. However, further treatment would be decided only after receiving the MRI report on Wednesday.
