Gilchrist to lead
By P.Subramanyam
LONDON, AUG.7. Adam Gilchrist will lead Australia in place of the
injured Steve Waugh against England at Headingly next week, it
was announced.
The tourists confirmed that the wicket-keeper/batsman has been
promoted from vice-captain , which Steve Waugh will miss after
tearing a calf muscle during the third Test at Trent Bridge last
week. Ricky Ponting will act as Gilchrist's deputy.
Steve Waugh is undergoing treatment in the hope of being fit for
the final match of the series at The Oval, but the prospects do
not look bright and therefore, it is expected that Gilchrist may
keep the job till the end of this series.
