Trinamool Congress in Assam dissolved

By Barun Das Gupta

GUWAHATI, AUG. 7. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Assam which never got into business, as it were, has closed shop.

The State party president, Mr. Chitta Ranjan Patwari, said here today that he had ``dissolved'' the Assam Pradesh TMC on Monday.

He said the party had lost its credibility because of the``sheer political opportunism'' of the party supremo, Miss Mamata Banerjee, who first entered into a pre-election alliance with the Congress in West Bengal, then withdrew from it and was now seeking re-admission into the NDA.

While Mr. Patwari declined to spell out what his next step would be, party sources said the party was all set to rejoin the Congress.

The party fought the last Assembly elections in Assam alone and won one seat while an independent supported by it won another.
