Hyderabad to host meet on green building concepts
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 9. Hyderabad is to shortly host an international
event on promoting green and eco-friendly concepts in the area of
construction.
Prominent personalities in the field of environment, industry,
trade, business, construction, architecture and related subjects
from the US, the UK, Singapore, Japan and all over the country
are expected to participate in the conference beginning August
31. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, will inaugurate
the `Green Building Congress 2001', organised jointly by the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the State Government.
Announcing this here on Thursday, the Minister for Major
Industries, Mr. K. Vidyadhar Rao, said as part of the initiatives
to promote the green concept, it was proposed to set up a 400-
hectare `green industrial park' near Jadcherla in Mahbubnagar
district.
He said the idea of the Green Building Congress 2001 was to
create awareness of the emerging eco-friendly and pollution-free
technologies in the field of construction as also on the use of
recycled products. A decision to set up a Green Business Centre
in Hyderabad, conforming to highest international standards, was
taken during the Partnership Summit held here in January.
The Government, the CII, the US Agency for International
Development (USAID) and the US Energy Association (USEA) are the
partners in the enterprise. A four-day exhibition would also be
held from August 30 to September 2.
The Minister said the Green Building Congress was significant for
being the first such meet in Asia. The US was a world leader in
green buildings, Washington boasting of the only platinum rated
building in the world. `The second is going to come up here in
Hyderabad', he said.
Mr. Vidyadhar Rao said a number of Government agencies would
participate in the congress-cum-exhibition which he hoped would
provide excellent opportunities for the State to garner
investment in the building sector.
