Ashoka Chakra on liquor bottles: PIL seeks ban
BILASPUR (Chhatisgarh), AUG.9 The Chhatisgarh high Court has
admitted a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the
use of the national symbol, Ashoka Chakra, for sealing the liquor
bottles being sold in the shops run by the State Government. The
division bench comprising Chief Justice W.A. Shishak and Mr.
Justice Fakhruddin admitted the litigation in this regard
yesterday and issued notices to the state Chief Secretary and
Principal Secretary (commercial tax). The court has fixed August
20 as the next date of hearing.
In his PIL, local lawyer Ramakant Mishra contended that the
symbol of Ashok Chakra along with `Satyamev Jayate' was embossed
in the wrapper used in sealing the liquor bottles. The wrapper is
thrown into the dustbin after use, which amounts to disrespect of
the national symbol, he added.
