XLRI to conduct online entrance exam
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, AUG. 10. The Jamshedpur-based management institute XLRI
will henceforth conduct its admission tests online right from the
application stage.
Fr. P.D. Thomas, Director, XLRI, who was in Chennai today to
promote what he called ``a pioneering initiative of the
institute'', said the electronic process would simplify the test
process. Online application happened through the XLRI website
(www.xlri.edu). Students could go to their preferred exam centre,
invariably Internet centres, with sufficient infrastructure. The
test to be held in January 2002 could be taken and answered by
students online and the answers evaluated speedily. ``We will
eliminate cumbersome paperwork like application and processing,
besides the need to print question papers. Students need not
travel great distances to a centre to take the examination.''
The institute, he said, had tied up with Bluseshift, an Internet
applications firm, which had produced `SENATE' (service engine
for assessment, testing and e-learning) to manage the entire test
process from application processing to result generation and
reporting.
Dr. Sankaran P. Raghunathan, Chairman, Blueshift India, said the
company was providing for online Registration, content
preparation, website design, tieups with test centres, test
supervision, delivery and reporting. Dishnet DSL and Junction 96
would provide the test centres across the country and Sathyam
Infoway, host the contents.
He explained the various safeguards taken to ensure a foolproof
examination and candidate-ID system, which would at the same time
be user-friendly for the candidates.
Fr. Thomas said other institutions now using CAT and MAT scores
could now use XLRI's scores and benefit from the quick electronic
process. Slowly, the Institute planned to use products such as
SENATE for online education.
He also explained the role XLRI was playing for improving
economic and development activities in the Jharkand State,
including preparing a development plan for the State and a
programme to help students from the tribal and poorer sections
prepare for competitive and civil service examinations.
