Six students killed in mishaps

THRISSUR, AUG. 10. Six students, including three school children, were killed and many others injured in two separate accidents in the State today. In one of the incidents in Thrissur district, three girl students were killed and 22 others injured, one of them seriously, when the private bus in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Potta, near Chalakkudy.

The deceased have been identified as Lathika (18), Simi (16) and Hena (16). While Hena and Simi are Plus II students at the Chalakkudy Nirmala College, Lathika was a first year degree student at the Chalakkudy Sacred Heart College. Mrs. Omana (34), who was seriously injured, has been admitted to the Elite Hospital in the city and the remaining taken to the St. James Hospital at Chalakkudy.

In another incident at Jangathiri, near Thrithala in Palakkad, three school children were killed and one was seriously injured when a mini-bus hit them while on their way to the school. The children were thrown away in the impact.

The bus driver and the conductor escaped. Irate local people blocked the road since morning and only after the intervention of the district administration that the people dispersed.

The Deputy Collector, Mr. Sugathan, was sent to the spot to inquire into the incident. The dead have been identified as Athira (10), daughter of Mr. Madhavan of Vettukaduvalappil, Nimisha (13) and Akshara (10), both daughters of Mr. Murali of Nayanodi. Anupama (8), daughter of Mr. Madhavan, was admitted to a private hospital at Perinthalmanna with serious injuries.
