Pakistan is not serious
Sir, - Your Editorial `For sustainable talks with Pakistan' (Aug.
9) has analysed the problem thoroughly, but I feel we are all
wrong in assuming that Pakistan is serious about a dialogue. In
this context, Gen. Musharraf's press conference is revealing when
he made two significant statements.
The first was the question why we hate each other so much. We are
all aware that an average Indian does not hate a Pakistani. But
due to decades of a hate campaign, Pakistan has ensured that the
people there hate Indians.
The second statement was that in case the Kashmir problem was not
solved, the `jehadis' will do the rest.
This clearly indicates that he will ensure escalation of cross-
border terrorism. All his statements about trying to reach
agreements on other issues are not to be trusted.
After the Doda and Jammu railway station killings, the country
must realise that this is the beginning and such violence will
spread to other parts.
It is unfortunate that political parties instead of condemning
Pakistan criticise our Government.
