Whither honesty?
Sir, - Mr. Ajay K. Mehra's write- up `Democracy be damned' (Aug.
9) carries ominous political undertones. The politicisation of
the bureaucracy has led to a new species of sycophants among top
civil servants. Integrity and honesty are no longer admired and
respected. How much clout one wields matters most. When law-
breakers become law-makers, as Mr. Mehra puts it, the common man
can expect very little justice.
It is an excellent suggestion that the politicians should rise
above partisan attitudes in the best interest of the country. But
the million dollar question is will they do it, ever?
K. Muralidharan,
Palakkad, Kerala
