Manjrekar to lead CCI
MUMBAI, AUG. 10. The Brabourne Stadium will be the venue for the
city's cricket aficionados in December end. It is at this famous
and traditional cricket ground, until 1972-73 a Test match venue,
a unique triangular featuring three of the top cricket clubs in
the world will be played.
The Cricket Club of India (CCI) promoted event will see the
Marylebone Cricket Club (London) and Melbourne Cricket Club in
action in a 45 overs basis.
``It's been a dream for me. The two MCCs played a one- day match
during the Ashes. This time the two sides played in England on
July 24,'' said Mr. Raj Singh Dungarpur, President, Cricket Club
of India (CCI). The three clubs have been asked to pick players,
who are over 30 and have not played a first class match since
1996.
Sanjay Manjrekar has been named the captain of the CCI. The other
players who are likely to figure in the team are K. Srikkanth,
Madan Lal, Sandeep Patil, Raju Kulkarni and Kiran More.
The CCI has also invited Tony Lewis and Ted Dexter for the event.
``The theme of the triangular will be the spirit of the game,''
said Mr. Dungarpur.
