Pak. will continue peace initiative: Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, AUG. 12. The Pakistan military ruler and President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, has declared that Pakistan would continue with its peace initiative in the post-Agra period.

Gen. Musharraf told the visiting former Japanese Prime Minister and Special Representative of the Democratic Party of Japan, Mr. Tsutomu Hata, that Islamabad desired normalisation of ties with India.

Gen. Musharraf gave a resume of regional issues, including the peace initiative, which has been launched by Pakistan for normalising relations with India and resolving the core issue of Kashmir.

The nuclearisation of South Asia and developments in Afghanistan were also discussed. The President apprised Mr. Hata of the Government's plans to revive the country's economy, strengthen the national institutions and to restore a true and representative democracy in Pakistan.

Mr. Tsutomu Hata is paying a visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Sattar. Mr. Hata is President of the Japan-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship League in Japan.
