Culture dept. plans a string of events

HYDERABAD, AUG. 12. The Department of Culture has planned a string of events to enrich the cultural scene in the State thoughtfully knitting special occasions with events. Apart from the regular cultural calender which contains theatre, dance and music festivals, it is now planning to celebrate Vinayaka Chavithi, Navratri, Children's Day and Teachers' Day too in a big way by organising programmes related to the themes chosen.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Ms.G.Rekha Rani, director, Department of Culture, said that Independence Eve Celebrations would precede all of them. 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha', a three hour event will see several city colleges and schools presenting specially choreographed dance programmes. Patriotism is the central theme of these.

Special audio visual effects and releasing of pigeons and tri colour balloons would mark the day. To encourage and bring about the best in students the programme would be conducted as a competition and prizes would be awarded to winners by sponsors (corporate houses).

Mr.E.Peddi Reddy, Minister for Tourism, inaugurates the celebrations. The department would be honouring the family members of Major Padmapani Acharya who laid down his life in the country's defence during Kargil operation.

A 'Ganesh Mela' would be held from August 14 at Ravindra Bharathi in which artistes would be depicting their talent in the form of Ganesha's various forms in the medium of their choice. The art works would be on display at Ravindra Bharathi during the mela period, Ms.Rekha Rani said.

The advent of Navratri season would witness a special Navratri mela to be held at Lalit Kala Thornam, she added. A children's carnival would be organised from November 11 to 13 here and likewise cultural department would be holding festivals at districts too.

A theatre workshop was also being planned to train enthusiastic persons, she said.
