Govt. responsible
Sir,- The brutal attack on Catholic religious workers last week
in Ujjain and Thane made distressing reading. The fascist cadres
made no secret of their complicity in this attack by stating that
it was in response to the killing of four of their men by tribal
militants in Tripura two years ago. Why this retaliation after a
lapse of two years?
For the last one month, the Union Home Ministry has been claiming
that the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act will be made more
stringent because the Church is abetting the militants in the
north-east with foreign funds. Linking this ``official''
allegation with their own logic, the fascist cadres have now
struck against the Church workers.
The Home Ministry must own responsibility for this sudden spurt
in attack. If the Ministry has evidence of alleged abetting of
militants through foreign funds by the Church, it must present
its findings to Parliament which is in session now before going
to the press. The Church will never shy away from owning
responsibility if the allegation is even remotely true.
