Leaders to attend 'Hegde 75' on Aug. 29

BANGALORE, AUG. 13. A galaxy of national leaders including former prime ministers will participate in the 75th birthday celebrations of the former Chief Minister, Mr.Ramakrishna Hegde.

The "Hegde 75 " will be held at the Palace Grounds here on August 29.

A felicitation committee, under the presidentship of Dr.Raja Ramanna, MP, is giving final touches to the celebrations.

While Mr.V.S.Krishna Iyer is the Working President of the committee, the vice presidents include the former Prime Minister, Mr.I.K.Gujral, the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, Mr.Jaswant Singh, Mr.Sharad Pawar, Mr.Sharad Yadav, Mr.Naveen Patnaik, Ms.Maneka Gandhi, Mr.Suresh Kalmadi and Mr.Sompal.

The State JD(U) President, Mr.C.Byre Gowda, and the former minister, Mr.B.Somasekhar, told presspersons here today that former Prime Minister, Mr.Chandra Shekhar, would inaugurate the celebrations, and the Chief Minister, Mr.S.M.Krishna, would preside over the celebrations.

Among others who would participate included the former Prime Minister, Mr.V.P.Singh, the former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mr.P.A.Sangma, the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, and Dr.U.R.Anantha Murthy and Mr.M.V.Kamath.

A set of five volumes on the contributions made by Mr.Hegde during his five decades of political life, including some of his speeches and writings, would be brought out on the occasion to mark Mr.Hegde's "50 years in public life".

It is being edited by the well-known litterateur, Dr.Chandrasekhara Kambara.

Asked if the former Prime Minister, Mr.H.D.Deve Gowda, would be participating in the celebrations, Mr.Byre Gowda said that an invitation had been sent requesting Mr.Deve Gowda to participate. His reply was awaited.
