Corporates, employers form consortium against child labour

HYDERABAD, AUG. 13. Twentyfive business associations and three
State-level federations of employers in Andhra Pradesh have
decided to form themselves into a consortium to work jointly for
the elimination of child labour in the State.
Two draft Plans of Action have been developed, one to be
implemented by the corporates and the other jointly by the
Federations and Associations, within less than two years.
This was announced by Mr. M. P. Joseph, Project Manager of the
International Labour Organisation's A. P. Project for Elimination
of Child Labour at the conclusion of a workshop for employers
organised jointly by the ILO, CII, FAPCCI and the Employers'
Federation of Southern India (EFSI). A round table for corporate
houses held as part of the workshop was attended by
representatives of Satyam, Infotech, Pennar, Apollo Hospitals,
Dr. Reddy's Lab, VST, ITW Signode and others.
Two separate working groups, one for the Corporates and the other
jointly for Associations and Federations was constituted to
further expand on the action plan and to implement it. The
following members were nominated from the Corporates: Mr. R. C.
Mall, A. P. Paper Mills Limited, Brig. K. Hari Kumar, Signal Tree
Solutions, Mr. Guruswamy, NMDC, Mr. Ramadhar Reddy, VST Company,
Mr. Prabhakar Raju, Parke-Davis, Ms. Sangeetha Reddy, Apollo
Hospitals, Mr. Ashok Reddy, Infotech and Ms. Geetha, Global Trust
Bank. Mr. William Thompson, State Representative of UNICEF, will
participate in the working group.
The joint working group of the Federations and Associations
consists of Mr. K. Ramakrishna Rao, EFSI, Mr. O. F. Reddy,
FAPCCI, Mr. G. Dhanamjaya, APFCCT, Mr. A. Narasimha Rao, A. P.
Builders Association, Mr. K. V. R. Murthy, Federation of A.P.
Small Industries Association, Mr. Ram Mohan Rao, Secretary, NIPM,
Mr. Murahari Rao, Seeds Men Association and Ms. Rani, National
HRD Network.
Dr. I. V. Subba Rao, Secretary, Education, appealed to the
corporates to participate fully in the task of eliminating child
labour not only in the organised sector but lend their influence
and support to end it in the unorganised sector as well.
