Medispan to market Biotec's TB detection kit

CHENNAI, AUG. 13. Biotec Laboratories, an established diagnostics
company based in U.K., has entered into a tie-up with Medispan,
promoted by the Chennai based Shriram group, to market the
former's tuberculosis detection kits in India.
Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. Michael Hess, managing
director, Biotec Laboratories, said `FAST plaque TB' - a product
of biotechnology research - was a unique TB detection kit
developed by the company based on Phage amplification technology.
With a maximum detection time of 48 hours against the 4-6 weeks
for the conventional culture method, the kit has high specificity
and is safe for lab staff.
The kit had undergone evaluation trials over two years in premier
tuberculosis research institutes in India and approved by the
Drug Controller General for marketing in India. He said Biotec's
product range spanned seven groups and was sold through
authorised dealer networks in over 40 countries.
Mr. R. S. Chari, managing director, Medispan, which manufactures
and markets pharmaceutical formulations including anti-
tuberculosis products throughout India, said the company would be
working with microbiologists, diagnostic centres, hospitals and
tuberculosis and chest disease specialists to achieve the
national goal of eradication of tuberculosis.
Mr. R. Thiagarajan, chairman, Shriram group, said the group was
promoting health care with the establishment of Medispan in
Chennai and Medicorp Technologies in Hyderabad.
