Yediyurappa demands White Paper on drought relief works
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, AUG. 14. The BJP leader, Mr. B. S. Yediyurappa, MLC,
has urged the Government to publish a White Paper on drought-
relief works.
Speaking to reporters here today, Mr. Yediyurappa seemed
dissatisfied over the way the Government was tackling the
problem. His tour of 10 districts had convinced him about the
failure of the Government. In most places, the relief measures
had been launched only on paper.
He said that though the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, had
announced that the Centre would release one lakh tonnes of
foodgrains free to the State, the Government was yet to take
steps to get it released. It had not informed the Centre about
the actual needs in various districts.
Mr. Yediyurappa reiterated his party's demand for constitution of
district-level committees comprising members of political parties
to monitor drought-relief works (The Chief Minister, Mr. S. M.
Krishna, has rejected the demand.) The BJP leader demanded the
constitution of taluk-level monitoring committees, headed by MLAs
and consisting of representatives of various political parties.
