Quota for SC, STs in minority institutions urged

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, AUG. 14. Activists of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a dharna here on Tuesday in front of the office of the Commissioner of Technical Education, urging the State Government to control the ``ongoing education business in the name of minority institutions'' and provide reservations to the backward classes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in minority educational institutions.

Later, a delegation of the ABVP, headed by its State secretary, Mr. K. Sudhakar, and city secretary, Mr. K. Raju, submitted a memorandum to Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Commissioner, Technical Education, demanding that admissions to various courses in minority educational institutions be made by the respective Combined Entrance Test conveners, according to a press release.

They also urged the Commissioner to constitute a high-level committee to inquire into the reported irregularities being committed by minority educational institutions.

The rules and regulations applicable to general educational institutions should also be extended to minority educational institutions. Recognition of minority institutions which violate such regulations should be cancelled, they demanded.
