The offers you cannot discount
WHEN TEXTILE majors come with discount offers to attract
consumers, their main competitor, handloom cooperative societies
can't afford to lag behind.
Though these societies come up with discount offers on and off,
especially during the festival seasons to clear their stocks, the
month of Aadi is not on their list of priorities so far. But this
year, the societies want to try it out like other textile shops,
on Independence Day.
The exhibition is being conducted at the Directorate of Handlooms
and Textiles at Kuralagam from 10 a.m to 8 p.m.
But unlike others, who normally make use of the discount sales to
dispose of their old stock and replenish with new varieties,
handloom societies want to popularise their new varieties through
this `mega sale' exhibition.
Handloom clothes, which are known for innovative designs and
excellence in weaving, will be on display on the sale. You name
the variety, the one day exhibition will have it.
Be it gorgeous and traditional Kancheepuram silk in different
hues, ethnic and unique Kalakshetra sarees, a joint venture
product with Kalakshetra Foundation, naturally-dyed eco-weaves,
attractive and aesthetic Kanchi Cotton, impressive and
intricately-designed Kovai cotton sarees, fascinating Vilathai
sarees, crisp cotton sarees from traditional Paramakudi, Woraiyur
and Musiri, home furnishings, ready-made shirts, made-ups,
churidars, etc., will all be there.
The new products from various weavers' cooperative societies all
over the State with new designs and elegant colour combination
will be on display on the one-day mega sale to coincide with I-
Day.
