Organisations reach out to their employees on I-day
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, AUG. 15. The 55th Independence Day on Wednesday was
celebrated all over the city in ways as diverse as the country
itself. If the day was a nostalgia trip for freedom fighters it
also presented an opportunity for organisations to reach out to
their employees.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Tamil Nadu State
Committee, celebrated the day by honouring veterans of the
freedom struggle. Party members unfurled the National Flag and
the party flag at its T.Nagar campus.
The Government General Hospital chose to acknowledge its staff on
the occasion. The Dean, Dr. M. Munirathinam, presented the `Best
Worker' prize and appreciation certificates to employees. He
inspected a Guard of Honour presented by the Madras Medical
College NCC company and hoisted the tricolour at the Government
General Hospital administrative block and the Madras Medical
College.
The State Express Transport Corporation celebrated the day by
awarding employees who have served for more than 15 years with an
accident-free record. Prizes were given to employees' children
who had scored high marks in the recent twelfth and tenth board
exams.
There was entertainment too. The Metropolitan Transport
Corporation (MTC) had organised a karate demonstration by Mr.
Deivasigamani, his wife and students at the corporation
headquarters.
The woman lying on a bed of nails was the highlight of the
programme. A two-wheeler was driven over a plank placed on her
and students formed a human pyramid with her as the base.
The National Flag was unfurled by the MTC Managing Director, Mr.
Swaran Singh. At the Ripon Building, the Chennai Mayor, Mr. M. K.
Stalin, unfurled the flag with the Corporation Commissioner, Mr.
J. T. Acharyulu, other officials and elected members
participating in the celebrations.
The Mayor inspected a guard of honour and later distributed
prizes to Corporation School top rankers in the recent twelfth
and tenth board examinations.
The Chennai Airport Director, Mr.Sudhir Kumar, who hoisted the
tricolour at the airport said since the Chennai airport had been
conferred with the global quality certification, AAI employees
would maintain this high-level global aviation standard.
