T.N. relieves police officer

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, AUG. 16. The Tamil Nadu Government today issued orders relieving Dr. R. Rajagopalan from his post as the Director- General of Police (Training) to allow him to join as chief of the National Security Guards as requested by the Centre.

A copy of the orders was sent to the Centre, according to sources here. Dr. Rajagopalan was free to take up his new assignment at a date of his convenience. He received the relieving orders this evening and will hand over charge as DGP (Training) on Friday. He is expected to join duty on August 20.

However, the State Government is unlikely to give concurrence to the transfer of the three other IPS officers whose services were requisitioned by the Centre for posts in the Cabinet Secretariat.

The Centre had not set any time-frame for the State Government to reply. The State Government appears to have drawn a distinction between the case of Dr. Rajagopalan and that of the three others, Mr. K. Muthukaruppan, Mr. S. George and Mr. Christopher Nelson. Unlike Dr. Rajagopalan, none of the three want to take up an assignment in Delhi.
