NGOs up in arms against IAS officers, plan stir
By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 16. The AP Non-Gazetted Government Officers
Association is up in arms against IAS officers, alleging
harassment, and has decided to launch an agitation after August
24 if the Government fails to act in this regard.
An emergency executive committee meeting of the APNGGOs
Association, held here on Thursday, to discuss the issue of
suspension of five employees of the Visakhapatnam Collectorate in
connection with defence land acquisition scam, also heard
complaints from representatives of all the 23 district units
against their Collectors and other IAS officers.
The much-agitated APNGGOs Association and the AP Revenue Services
Association have decided to focus on the harassment they were
allegedly being subjected to by IAS and IPS officers, politicians
and Ministers.
On the defence land scam suspension issue, the State unit
directed its local district and city units to launch an
indefinite strike from August 25 if the suspensions were not
revoked by August 24 while the units in other districts would be
conducting a protest programme. An indefinite strike would be
launched after August 27. On the issue of `harassment' of
employees by IAS officers and others, the employees have set a
deadline of August 24 and would chalk out their agitational
programme.
Mr. G. Purnachandra Rao, chairman of the joint action committee
of employees and president of the APNGOs Association, Mr.T.
Sudhakar Prasad, general secretary of the APNGOs' Association and
secretary of the State Revenue Services Association, and others
expressed resentment over the way employees were being treated by
IAS and IPS officers, politicians and some Ministers.
The NGGO leaders cited instances like the alleged harassment
being meted out by the Joint Collector of Mahabubnagar, the
Collector of Nalgonda not honouring the AP Administrative
Tribunal's orders, and the Joint Collector of Visakhapatnam
taking decisions contravening the existing GOs. The APNGGOs
Association alleged that the Revenue Divisional Officer of
Visakhapatnam was harassing the employees and that he did not
honour the orders passed by the Collector on reinstating an
employee.
