It's curtains for seven-member 'Black Yamaha' gang
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, AUG. 16. A gang of criminals, which was allegedly
responsible for 13 robberies during last two years in the city,
was busted by the police with the arrest of seven gangsters. A
black Yamaha motorbike, frequently used by the robbers thus
earning them the sobriquet of `Black Yamaha' gang, was also
seized along with three other vehicles.
Announcing the arrest at a press conference here on Thursday, the
Commissioner of Police, Mr. P. Ramulu, said that Rs. 3.13 lakhs
in cash and the knives used by the gang during the robberies were
seized by the anti-dacoity and robbery (ADR) team. One of the
gang members, Syed Abbas Hussain, was nabbed at Aliabad and later
others were also arrested.
The gang was led by Syed Najaf Ali, who was allegedly involved in
two murder cases in the Old city. He reportedly jumped the bail
in the murder case of Abdul Hafeez, an advocate, under Mirchowk
police station limits. He reportedly killed one Mohd. Osman under
Dabeerpura police station limits and since then was absconding.
He formed a gang of criminals with Hussain (22) of Jangammet,
Falaknuma, Nizamuddin Ansari (25) of Amberpet, Syed Kazim Hussain
Abedi (22) of Dabeerpura, Ghulam Ghouse (19) of Kalapattar, Syed
Ahmed Hussain (18) of Jangammet and Nasar Hussain (19) of King
Koti. They lifted one Yamaha motorcycle under Gopalapuram police
station limits and another one under Chilkalguda police station
limits.
Mr. Ramulu said the gang rented posh houses in Poorna and Nanded
of Maharashtra and in Patancheru on city outskirts and spent the
stolen money on liquor and for carnal desires. Appreciating the
job accomplished by the Detective Department, the Commissioner
said two constables -- Mohd. Ghouse Khan and Syed Sirajuddin --
who followed the gang for two months and were beaten up by them
twice were promoted as head constables.
Mr. Ramulu also said he was recommending a letter of commendation
and a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 to Mr. V. Vemanarayana, Assistant
Commissioner of Police. Mr. Syed Moinuddin, Inspector, was being
recommended meritorious service entry. A cash reward of Rs. 2,000
each was announced to the Inspector and other members of the ADR
team.
Two burglars held
In another breakthrough, the Detective Department arrested two
notorious burglars -- Shaik Habeeb Abbas (22) and Syed Mahboob
Qader (24) -- both of Tolichowki, who have been involved in
house-breaking incidents since 1989. Gold ornaments, electronic
goods and motorcycles, worth Rs. 3.5 lakhs, were recovered. The
burglars confessed that they had committed 10 offences and
disposed of gold jewellery worth Rs. 4 lakhs to Mohd. Akthar
Khan, Syed Abdul Shakeel, Md. Mouzam Siddiqui, Mohd. Asad and
Bhagawandas of Kali Kaman who were absconding.
The Detective Department of CCS, led by Inspector Mr. K. Mahipal
Reddy, also nabbed a house burglar, Mohd. Haji (24), of
Sananthnagar who confessed that he committed 13 house-breaking
offences in the areas of Asifnagar, Banjara Hills, Golconda,
Langerhouz and Humayunnagar. Haji's associate Naser of AC Guards
is still at large.
