An act of corruption
Sir, - Reference Mr. Harish Khare's report on the Prime Minister,
Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, influencing to find appointment for a retired
bureaucrat (Aug. 13): perhaps, this is only one example of how
the Vajpayee regime is worried about the benefits for some
individuals rather than the interest of the country. The
``importune for post-retirement sinecure'' of one individual
makes one wonder whether the Centre is working for the national
benefit or individual or party benefit.
Obtaining or giving appointments through manipulation for the
advantage of the incumbent is nothing but corruption, against
which Mr. Vajpayee and his team had taken cudgels in the past.
When the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, was reportedly
toying with the idea of committed bureaucrats and judiciary, Mr.
Vajpayee, who was in the Opposition then, denounced the move.
