Tata Power to buy Tata Intl.'s transmission division

MUMBAI, AUG. 16. Tata Power is all set to take over the transmission division of Tata International (TIL), another company from the Tata stable for around Rs. 13 crores.

``We will soon acquire the business after completing certain formalities. The division now has projects worth Rs. 80 crores in design, fabrication or galvanising, supply, erection and commissioning of transmission lines", company sources told PTI here today. The acquisition comes in the wake of the country's oldest power utility's foray into the field of engineering, procurement and construction, they said.

``In-house project, execution skills will enable us to undertake complete EPC and operation and maintenance contracts for power stations", sources said adding that Tata Power was also the single largest shareholder of Tata Projects Ltd.

The company has executed several turnkey contracts for main transmission lines and substation projects in countries like Thailand, Pilippines, Iraq, Sudan, Muritius, Algeria, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iran.

Tata Power is also one of the 15 private power companies which have evinced interest in Powergrid Corporation of India's 16,529 MW transmission network.
