Horne, Babloo hog the limelight
CHENNAI, AUG. 16. New Zealand Cricket Association's Matthew
Horne, the lone century maker (111, 141b, 20x4), and MRF's left-
arm spinner Babloo Kumar (six for 68), hogged the limelight in
the MRF-Buchi Babu all-India invitation cricket tournament held
here on Thursday.
Opting to bat, New Zealand CA had made 277 for nine in 101 overs
at close of play against Mumbai Cricket Association. Opener
Mathew Bell (47, 161b, 5x4) and the centurion Horne put on 144
runs for the second wicket in 47.4 overs. For Mumbai, Rajesh
Pawar, the left-arm spinner, claimed four wickets for 70 runs.
Hyderabad Cricket Association was able to muster 256 runs against
MRF. Opener A. Nandakishore 44 (124b, 8x4), Ibrahim Khaleeel 50
(101b, 5x4, 1x6) and Shivaji Yadav 56 (78b, 7x4) contributed.
Khaleel and Shivji together compiled 102 runs for the eighth
wicket in 25 overs. Babloo and off-spinner Aashish Kapoor claimed
all the wickets that fell today. Aashish took four for 68.
Hyderabad, 116 for three, at one stage, slumped to 140 for seven.
Infact, five wickets fell for just 24 runs in 6.4 overs. At
stumps, MRF was 65 for two.
At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Karnataka State Cricket
Association, with contributions from opener Barrington Rowland 71
(169b, 6x4), Sunil Joshi 83 (92b, 12x4, 3x6), finished the day at
322 for seven from 99 overs against MAC-TNCA XI.
ONGC was all out for 188 against Cricket Association of Bengal
(CAB) after opting to bat. Off-spinner Sourashish Lahiri (five
for 57) starred for CAB. In reply, CAB, at close of play, was 118
for five. Captain Rohan Gavaskar top scored with 44 (64b, 3x4,
2x6).

ONGC 188 in 54.3 overs (Sandeep Sharma 29, Virender Sehwag 26,
Rizwan Shamshad 30, Amit Sharma 32, Sib Sankar Paul three for 36,
Sourashish Lahiri five for 57) v CAB 118 for five in 40 overs
(Rohan Gavaskar 44), at SRMC.
New Zealand CA 277 for nine in 101 overs (Mathew Bell 47, Matthew
Horne 111, V. Marshall 33, Rajesh Pawar four for 70) v Mumbai CA,
at ICL-Guru Nanak.
