Talk of the town

This tale of history may be making history at the box office, but it is not quite ready to become history yet. And as the sunshines on the film at the box office, it is time to make hay. Capitalising on the success of the film are the Archies guys. And immortalising the cast of ``Lagaan'' in the process.

Yes, Archies Greeting and Gift Limited have signed an exclusive tie up with Aamir Khan Productions Private Ltd to offer a special range of ``Lagaan'' merchandise. It brings the stars of the film closer to the fans with posters, greeting cards, autograph books, letter pads and book marks. All the products bear visuals from the film.

And then for those who are through with visual delights, there is more. It comes in the form of a puzzle game, ``Lagaan Puzzle Pal''. The fan-friendly range comes between Rs. 7 and Rs. 120.

That means when the show is finally over and the stars go home, you will still have memories and pictures to live on. Not bad for those living on celluloid fantasies.

``India's Most Wanted'' -- the popular television show on crime -- produced by Suhaib Ilyasi is all set for a second innings. This time round, it will be in the form of ``Fugitive -- The Most Wanted'' which will start on Jain TV shortly.

While ``India's Most Wanted'' was telecast on a private satellite channel for 65 episodes and it helped in nabbing 45 fugitives, ``Fugitive -- The Most Wanted'' will be on air every Monday at 10 p.m from August 20.

``Since its very inception, the fight against criminals and their powerful nexus has not been easy. The threats and attacks still continue,'' says Suhaib, hoping that the programme will become as popular in Jain TV as it was earlier.

When supermodel Naomi Campbell sashays down the ramp, she carries her svelte body and her demure head with dignity. And she wears her Turkish towel headgear with even greater dignity. Not many know that very often, the softness of designs she wears and its luxuriousness comes from a natural fibre manufactured from the famed beech tree.

Being the brand ambassador for the ``molecule of fabrics'' manufactured by an Austrian company, Lenzing, Naomi carries all forms of attire made from this oak tree (indigenous to Europe and Western Asia) which has a smooth bark and oval leaves with equal class. Whether it is a Western dress, a jeans outfit, a turtle- necked dress or an intimate slip, the fashion czarina endorses them all.

The beech derivative is a perfect blending partner for silks, woolen, cottons, linens and polyester. While it has entered the life of Indian consumers in saris and salwars, lingerie and sportswear, officewear and bridalwear, institutes in Bangalore like the Central Silk Board, Bapuji Institute, Devagiri are doing pioneering work to blend this fibre with silk for saris and related products.

The ``feel good'' fibre will now be showcased through two fashion shows -- one in Mumbai on September 26 and the other in Delhi on September 29. ``Our company is in touch with Naomi and we are making an effort to bring her to India for the show,'' says a public relations consultant to the company representing Lenzing in India.
