CPDC steps for accident-free zone
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 17. The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution
Company Limited, one of the four discoms serving Hyderabad-
Secunderabad apart from six districts, promises to make its area
free from any electrical accident.
At a high-level meeting here on Friday, wherein the MD of the
company, Mr. T.V.S.N. Prasad, reviewed the situation regarding
this aspect, officials took a pledge to ensure an accident-free
performance by the operation staff while attending to breakdowns
and fuse-of-calls. The meeting also resolved to educate the
operation and maintenance staff, including contract labour on the
job, on do's and don'ts while climbing the poles for restoration
of supply by observing the second half of August as "safety
fornight".
Regarding Metro Zone, which witnessed two or three accidents
recently, the MD appointed a high-level safety committee, headed
by the Chief Engineer, Metro Zone, and consisting of
superintending engineers of different operation circles, to look
into all aspects of safety and suggest further precautions apart
from the existing ones. He said, training classes were being
conducted by Mr. A. Raghavendra Rao, Director (Operations), for
the operation and maintenance staff and contract workers who
normally attend the fuse-of-calls.
According to an official press note issued later, the MD asked
the fuse-of-call staff to wear helmet, gloves and safety belts
and take "earth-rods" while attending on restoration works. The
MD also disclosed that all the 49 static fuse-of-call centres in
the Twin Cities were being replaced by 27 round-the- clock
emergency service vehicles having necessary equipment and
manpower.
