A smart gang of the fair sex!
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, AUG. 18. They are a bit good-looking, innocence
personified, remarkably articulate and extremely smart. But they
are neither sales girls nor students from a debating team of a
college but a group on the prowl collecting money from gullible
residents in the city.
Their modus operandi is simple. Each girl of this group spreads
out in one locality, posing herself as one whose purse was
snatched on landing in the city. They ask the people if they
could spare a few rupees, preferably Rs. 20 or 30 so they could
buy a return ticket to their native place.
Their articulation skills are best while trying to impress
gullible people. And their innocence just cannot be suspected.
It is the opposite sex that is mostly targetted by the group as
they instantly give out money to escape embarrassment or
sometimes believing their claims to be genuine. To escape
attention, they are aiming at people residing in apartments or
individual houses in good localities.
On Friday, some of these girls were seen in the Marredpally area
seeking money from residents repeating the same old excuse of
losing their purses. And there were several who believed their
stories and parted with their money. "I gave her Rs. 20 believing
her claims to be true. But my friend who had come to meet me got
suspicious of her actions and questioned her. Finally her claims
turned out to be fake," said, Mr. Praveen, a resident of
Marredpally.
Her game was up when she could not answer as to why she was
seeking money in Marredpally and not in Secunderabad where she
lost her purse. Moreover, the apartment she targeted was far away
from the main road in Marredpally. "It's unbelievable that she
could not get Rs. 20 from railway station to a locality away from
the main road in Marredpally. There are lots of houses and shops
in between," points out Mr. Praveen.
Interestingly, the same girl was seen in another apartment after
an hour trying to impress the residents there. Some time ago, the
attempts of a similar gang of girls, wearing mini skirts and
speaking fluent English, collecting money for some charity
organisation were foiled by the traffic police who grew
suspicious about their activities. The gang suddenly disappeared
after their photographs were published in some local newspapers.
