Minister launches voluntary garbage disposal scheme
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, AUG. 18. The Roads and Buildings Minister,
Mr.K.Vijayarama Rao, on Saturday launched the voluntary garbage
disposal scheme being implemented by the Urban Community
Development wing of the MCH at Noornagar, Banjara Hills. The
scheme is being taken up in coordination with welfare
associations of Noornagar, Devarkonda, Singadikonda, Ibrahimnagar
and Nandinagar.
Addressing the gathering, as part of the Clean and Green
Programme, after distributing five cycle rickshaws for use in
garbage disposal, he announced that the scheme would be extended
to other slums in the city.
He said 115 cycle rickshaws would be distributed by the MCH in
the city for garbage disposal if the residents came forward to
take up the scheme. The residents had to appoint a person for
garbage clearance.
Speaking to over 200 women who underwent a day's training in
nursery raising at Bapughat, the third such programme taken up by
the Urban Forestry wing of the MCH, the Minister said similar
training would be made available at Imbliban.
He described the training as an important constituent of the
Clean and Green programme. Besides, it brought small revenue to
women for raising saplings in their backyards. The MCH, which
provides the inputs, buys back the saplings after eight months.
Responding to requests, Mr.Rao said the MCH would henceforth
allow registration of candidates for training at all MCH circle
offices and nursery points. Hitherto, the registration had been
allowed only in the head office at Tank Bund.
Mr. Chandramohan Reddy, Director, Urban Forestry, welcomed the
guests. Dr.P.K.Mohantry, MCH Commissioner, spoke.
The Minister began the day by inspecting silt-removal from the
nala adjoining Ahmednagar, Khajanagar and Bholanagar areas in
Banjara Hills. He advised residents not to dump plastic bags,
cloths and waste material into the nala to avoid congestion.
Following representations, he asked the officials to dump the
silt removed from the nala outside. Mr. Rao said a special drive
would be launched to clean the nalas/slums as part of the Clean
and Green programme.
Following representation from residents regarding supply of
polluted water in Bholanagar and other areas and the threat posed
by leaking wall of an apartment next to Amruta Valley, the
Minister directed officials to make inspections and take remedial
action. He asked the AP Transco to take action against the
linesman concerned for not switching off the streetlights along
the canal even after daybreak.
Mr. Rao responded to a telephonic request from the residents of
Vijayanagar Colony to stop cutting of big branches of several
trees in a local park. He made an unscheduled visit to the colony
and asked MCH officials to stop the cutting, following opposition
from some residents.
The Minister reacted to a press report in a Telugu daily
regarding starting of a junior college, without a premises in the
Government High School, at Kulsumpura. He made a "surprise" visit
to the school and questioned officials of both the institution
and the Education department. Mr. Rao was told that the city
college had sought to run vocational courses in the school.
Messrs Rajeshwar Tiwari, Hyderabad Collector, M.G.Gopal, Managing
Director, HMWSSB, and R.P Sisodia, D.Jagannadha Rao and
Vijayabhaskar, Additional Commissioners, MCH, among other
officials, accompanied Mr. Rao during the visit.
