Three youths drowned in bid to rescue girls
By Our Special Correspondent
VISAKHAPATNAM, AUG. 19. Three youths drowned, while another was
in a critical condition when they tried to rescue two girls at
Rishikonda beach on Sunday evening.
Prema Chanakya Chandagupta, 26, Visweswara Rao, 27, of Marripalem
and Ch. Somesh, 25, of Gopalapatnam were drowned while
Sathireddi, also of Marripalem, was fighting for life in the King
George Hospital.
According to eye-witness accounts, K. Lakshmipriya, 16, and K.
Nagaprabha, 17, of Vijayawada, who are in the city attending an
NCC camp, went to the beach. They were splashing in the sea
waters and suddenly cried for help as the waves drew them inside.
The youths, who heard their shouts, jumped into the sea in a bid
to rescue them.
Meanwhile, some fishermen also dived into the waters and there
was some confusion. While the girls could be rescued, there was
no trace of the youths who valiantly tried to save them.
They were washed ashore after an hour and rushed to the KGH where
three of them were declared brought dead while one is being
treated.
