CPI(M) leader shot dead

AGARTALA, AUG. 19. Two persons, including a ruling CPI(M) leader, were gunned down by insurgents in two separate incidents in Tripura.

Suspected NLFT insurgents shot dead the CPI(M) leader, Mr. Jagadish Debbarma, who is also the chairman of the Kandaicherra Gaonsabha (village body), at his residence in west Tripura last night, police said.

The party in a statement condemned the killing as ``an act of cowardice.''

In another incident, the ultras shot dead one Mr. Jagadish Debbarma at Lembucherra village under Kamalpur sub- division of Dhalai district the same night.

Police have launched a search operation and are investigating the case, official sources said.
