Hurriyat critical of relief to security forces
SRINAGAR, AUG. 20. The Hurriyat Conference today sharply
criticised the move to give relief to security personnel accused
of human rights violations during fight against militancy and
said the move reinforced ``our view that the security personnel
have official patronage of the Government to violate human rights
in the State.
``It is a loud and clear message that security forces have
official patronage not to respect the human rights of the people
of Jammu and Kashmir,'' the Hurriyat said.
``Security forces already enjoy special concessions in Jammu and
Kashmir... Now the Government has come out clearer that they are
free to carry out bloodshed.
``It is not out of place to mention that the Union Home Minister,
Mr. L.K. Advani, who has been harping on his pro- active policy
of terrorism is now creating hurdles in the process of resolution
of the Kashmir issue through dialogue. Now that the cat is out of
the bag, responsibility has doubled on the international human
rights bodies to mount pressure on political and diplomatic
fronts for resolution of the Kashmir issue,'' it said.
