Army Chief to visit Singapore

SINGAPORE, AUG. 20. The Army Chief, Gen. Padmanabhan, will be
visiting Singapore and Japan from August 23 - his first-ever
foreign tour since taking over as Chief on September 30 last
year.
During the Singapore-leg of his visit, the General will have
meetings with the Chief of Army, Major-General Ng Yat Chung, the
Chief of Defence Force, Lt. Gen. Lim Chuan Poh, and the Second
Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean.
He will also visit Singapore Technologies which manufactures the
SAR 21 automatic rifle, the FH 2000 howitzer and Bionix - an
infantry fighting vehicle. He will address the Temasek Society, a
defence institution, on the issue of security challenges facing
India and its security role in Asia.
Gen. Padmanabhan's visit to Japan will be spread over three days
- from August 27 to 30 where he will be meeting with top Defence
and Foreign Ministry functionaries. In the case of Japan, it will
be the first-ever visit by an Indian Army Chief to Tokyo.
