KSRTC to assemble computers
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 20. The Kerala State Transport
Corporation will start computer assembling as part of the
computerisation programme, the Transport Minister, Mr. K.B.
Ganesh Kumar, has said.
Inaugurating the computerised reservation counter for long-
distance services at the KSRTC depot at Thampanoor here today,
the Minister said the technical wing would assemble two
computers. Once the technical committee okays them, the
corporation would assemble computers for its internal use, he
said.
The Minister said that the corporation had sought a loan of Rs.
250 crores from a Japan bank. If the request is granted, the
corporation would be able to tide-over the crisis as the interest
rate is only two per cent against the 14 per cent interest in
other financial institutions, he said.
Though the corporation is in deep financial crisis, the
Government would not cut the benefits due to the employees. The
decision to hire 10 airbuses would not cause any financial burden
to the corporation. The bus-owners would have to do the
maintenance work, Mr. Ganesh said.
The corporation earned a profit of Rs. 4.5 lakhs so far by
cutting unscientific schedules. There is no fall in income. The
KSRTC decided to cut unscientific schedules as per the
recommendation of the employees, he said.
Ticketing machine would be introduced soon after creating an
awareness among the employees. Toilets would be cleaned and
maintained in association with the District Tourism Promotion
Councils. Bus shelters would be constructed in all bus stations
with adequate security, he said.
The corporation also plans to construct an eight-storeyed
commercial complex at Thampanoor soon, he said. The corporation
managing director, Mr. D. Ramanujan, welcomed. Mr. V.S.
Sivakumar, MP, presided.
The corporation chairman, Mr. N. Ramakrishnan, the vice-
chairman, Mr. C.K. Appukuttan Nair, and the ward councillor, Mr.
Thampanoor Satish, were among those who addressed the meeting.
The chief traffic officer, Mr. G. Varghese, proposed a vote of
thanks.
