All set for karting fiesta
It's an open invitation to all action freaks. Experience the
speed that makes the surroundings go blurred demanding an
endurance level that can make even the best go wobbly in the knee
and the toughest clutch their stomach praying for it to calm
down. But that exactly is what it is all about -- speed, passion
and endurance.
You could now be part of this blastering thunder -- your very own
personal tryst with thrill on the tracks. Promising an experience
of a lifetime, JK Tyres, teaming up with Ford India, NOW, Sega
and Caltex, today announced the launch of National Karting
Championship 2001 -- tipped as the down-to-earth cousin of motor
racing -- bringing to life yet another round of nail-bitting
karting extravaganza.
Recognised world-wide as the most-loved lifestyle sport and the
first step towards motorsport career for speed enthusiasts, this
was first introduced in India by JK Tyres in 1997. Set to take-
off this year at Banglore on September 2, with Titan teaming up
to bring alive India's biggest motorsport spectacle, Go-karting
is to then continue unabated through Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad,
Calcutta, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Ludhiana, before the grand finale
at Delhi on December 23.
Meanwhile, the chief guest for the announcement of championships
was none other than the fastest Indian behind wheels -- Narain
Karthikeyan, who is currently racing the Formula Nippon
championships in Japan.
``It is really heart-warming to note the increasing interest
among international as well as Indian corporates to extend their
co-operation to Indian motorsport initiatives. And about National
Karting Championships...It is speed knocking at the doors of all
speed freaks!," said the Indian answer to Michael Schumacher.
``No sports enthusiast should miss this opportunity. It is a
heart-stopping, non-stop thrill-vaganza.''
The country's only national racing competition which has been the
launchpad for Indian motorsport, the championship will be held
primarily under three categories: group (A) participants under
55kg, group (B) participants between 55 kg and 65 kg and group
(C) for participants over 65 kg. The special classes include
women and children below 16 years.
And if the thought of hot chases in pursuit of the checkered flag
is not enough to excite you...something which will surely put you
in `josh' is the stylish `josh' machine up for grabs for the one
who can `outspeed' all others at the challenge of speed, thrill
and driving maneuverability, claim the organisers. But we believe
that the roaring engines, screeching halts, sharp contours,
thundering speeds and the flowing champagne would be just enough.
