All the wounded were policemen. Four of them were said to be in a serious condition. The military spokesman, Brig. Sanath Karunaratne, said LTTE casualties were ``high''.

The police station, in the Central Camp village, 10 km from Ampara town and 350 km east of the capital, came under attack a little after midnight.
