Changes in Ganesh procession at Charminar
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, AUG. 21. There will be some minor changes in the
movement of the centralised Ganesh idol immersion procession this
year on September 1 on account of the new fencing erected around
Charminar and also due to the closure of the Lower Tank Bund road
for traffic.
The centralised procession coming from Kotla Alijah side will
take a right turn at Charminar and proceed towards Gulzar Houz
from Laxmi temple side of the monument. Earlier, the procession
used to take a left turn and pass in front of the Charminar
police station.
However, in view of the new fencing erected around Charminar, it
would be difficult for the heavy vehicles to negotiate the turn
through the narrow road between the fencing and the built-up
area. The police officials were toying with the idea of
requesting the Ganesh Utsav Samiti to erect the welcome stage
facing Gulzar Houz.
``We have not yet spoken to the Ganesh Utsav Samiti regarding
this. Even if they do not agree for shifting the welcome stage,
the procession would have to take a right turn,'' the DCP,
Traffic, Mr. M.V. Dinakar Prasad, said. The traffic DCP held a
marathon meeting with his subordinates to review the traffic
arrangements on the day of idols' immersion.
The closure of the Lower Tank Bund - Indira Park Road for traffic
in view of the fly-over construction is forcing the police to opt
for a new route for vehicles coming from Shankar Mutt side. These
vehicles would be diverted to take a left turn at the RTC
crossroads, proceed to Narayanguda, where they will again take a
right turn at the new fly over to reach Liberty via Himayatnagar.
The vehicles coming from Mushirabad side would also have to take
the same route, as authorities were contemplating opening the
Kavadiguda Road via Praga tools only for vehicles returning from
the immersion site. The idols coming from Secunderabad side would
be asked to take a right turn at Buddha Bhavan and proceed
towards Sanjeevaiah Park, where three cranes would be erected.
The DCP North, Mr. M. Punna Rao, DCP East, Mr. C.V. Anand, and
other traffic officials went on a route survey on Tuesday to
finalise the routes.
