Indian team
MUMBAI, AUG. 21 The All India Karate-do Federation (AIKF) has
chosen a 12-member karate team to represent India at the
forthcoming South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, scheduled from
October 6-15 at Islamabad. This is in response to a request from
the Indian Olympic Association, according to the AIKF release.
The squad, chosen after a selection trials at Andheri Sports
Complex, Mumbai, on August 17 and 18, are: Kumite - Below 55 kgs:
Damang Syngkon (Meghalaya); 55-60 kgs: Subhash Chandra Nair
(Maharashtra); 60-65 kgs: Suresh Manuel (Tamil Nadu); 65-70 kgs:
Ratan Gharu (Maharashtra); 70-75 kgs: Prevesh Kasera (Delhi); 75-
80 kgs: Jagdish Bishi (Central Industrial Security Force); 80-85
kgs: Sallaudin Ansari (Maharashtra). Individual kata (form):
Banshanlang Kharumnuid (Meghalaya); Team Kata (three, plus one
reserve): T. Senthil, Mohanasundaram, R. Masood Ahmed and Gopal
Krishnan (Tamil Nadu).
