Yaseen Malik seeks permission to go abroad

NEW DELHI, AUG. 23. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman, Mr. Yaseen Malik, who was granted bail last week in a TADA case, today surrendered his passport in a city court and filed an application seeking permission to go abroad for operation.

While granting bail to Mr. Malik on August 18, the Special Judge, Mr. V.K. Jain, had directed Malik to surrender his passport to the CBI and not to leave the country without the court's permission.

PTI reports from Sri Nagar:

Police today prevented the former Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mr. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, from attending a condolence meeting in Tral on the apprehension that it would disturb peace there.

Mr. Geelani was on way to Tral when he was stopped at Awantipora, 30 km from here, and asked to return to Srinagar, a police spokesman said. He returned after putting up a stiff resistance.
