Eight new engg. colleges recommended

BANGALORE, AUG. 23. The State Cabinet on Thursday recommended to
the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) starting of
eight new engineering colleges and increasing intake in six
existing engineering colleges.
Briefing presspersons on the decisions taken at the Cabinet
meeting, the Minister for Social Welfare, Mr. Kagodu Thimmappa,
said that with the eight new colleges coming up, nearly 1,720
more seats would be available, besides the increase in intake by
135 seats.
The new colleges recommended for AICTE approval are - Al Ameen
Education Trust, Bangalore, Alpha Education Trust, Bangalore,
Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore, Adichunchanagiri Shikshana
Trust, Nagamangala, Visvesvaraya Education Trust, Bangalore,
Abhyudaya Education Society, Bangalore, People's Education
Society, Bangalore, and Sri Saila Education Society, Bangalore.
The colleges for which intake has been increased include
Siddharatha Institute of Technology, Ambedkar Institute of
Technology, Belimath Mahasamstha Institute, Revanasiddeshwara
Institute, Acharya Institute of Technology, and H.M.S.Institute
of Technology.
The Minister said it was left to the AICTE to approve these
colleges and courses, and the Government had just recommended it.
However, he did not answer why the Government had taken such a
decision when the State already had a plethora of engineering
colleges.
Recruitment rules
The Cabinet, he said, had decided to amend the rules for
recruitment in the Forest Department under which there would be
age and qualification relaxation for the posts of foresters,
forest guards, and motivators. He said that for the post of
foresters and forest guard the age relaxation was - SC and ST -
30 years; Other Backward Castes - 28 years; and others - 25 years
and the minimum educational qualification was Pre-University for
foresters and SSLC for forest guards.
For the post of motivators, he said the relaxation was 43 years
for SC and ST, 41 for OBC, and 38 years for others.
He said in the case of foresters, recruitment would be 50 per
cent direct and 50 per cent on promotion, while for the post of
forest guard 75 per cent would be direct and 25 per cent through
promotion, and for watchers it would be 25 per cent and 75 per
cent respectively.
